We all know Luc Besson… right? Y’know, the guy who made The Fifth Element? The movie that everyone sits down to watch whenever it is on television? That being said, he also made that really terrible movie, Lucy.
Anyway, Valerian looks like it has a lot going on with these two super soldiers or whatever being chased by a bunch of aliens. For some reason, Rhianna comes in with the flowing blonde hair and a morphing suit. There is just a lot of exhibition here and I can say that I wasn’t that impressed by it all.
I think it stems from the fact that I have absolutely no idea what’s going on, and that’s kind of a good place to be in this world over exposure. It looks good but I hope it also packs in a ton of substance to go with the wild visual effects. That was somewhat my issue with Dr. Strange. It was a great looking film that embraced its visual effects… but the story was really basic.
I know it’s based off a comic book series, but I don’t know anything about it and I won’t pretend to. I’ll be surprised when I head to the theater and walk out disappointed or happy just like everyone else.
