CDProjekt gives us an in-depth look at The Witcher 2 in this gameplay overview. We’re shown the many layers that Geralt has in his arsenal, and how combat advances as players get deeper into the game. On the path to becoming a better Witcher, players will be able to branch out into three paths. Alchemy, Swordsmanship, and Magic. Alchemy let’s players craft potions which can be used before or during battles. Some of the potions offer helpful buffs to the player, while others increase the capability of the weapon he’s carrying.

Magic is done through a system called “Signs”, in which the combination of two symbols creates a spell.Depending on the spell cast, you will get a single cast or an area-of-effect cast for groups. While swordsmanship is simple melee, with the opportunity to riposte or commit some devastating finishers.

We’re also shown a little bit about Geralt’s inventory, mainly his two weapons for slaughtering his foes. His silver weapon is useful against monsters, while his Longsword is for his humanoid foes. He can also find an assortment of other weapons, from axes, to polearms and such and so forth. So players can choose what weapons will work best for them in the long run.

Finally, the last portion of Geralt’s arsenal comes from being able to place traps. It’s better to use these against more advanced monsters, so that players can get some headway before they leap into battle. For the full scoop on The Witcher 2, take a gander at the trailer after the break.
